Grammy Awards organizers have instituted a new category to cater to the needs of African music. It is known as Best African Music Performance category.
The organizers want to highlight the importance of African music to global communities.
We wait to see the first winner of that category tonight, as he or she will make history.
On one side, many people think Burna Boy will receive the award. He is the most nominated Nigerian artist for Grammy Awards, having four nominations, while Davido has three nominations. Both Asake and Ayra Starr have one nomination to their names.
Ayra Starr is the lone female among three males contending for the award, and she said she’s already composed her winning speech.
Another African artist, a female, nominated in another category is Tems. She was nominated in the Best song written for Visiual Media Category because of her song titled “Lift Me Up.” That’s a soundtrack for the film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
